WOOD CARVINGS BY CINDY CHINN

A few years back, I bought a pair of old church pews at an auction. They were a little weather beaten, but still in good enough condition to do 'something' with. After a while I found the time to start carving one. I used my old, cheap tools and slogged through it. I learned a lot about carving and tools and staining and four months later I had a special piece of furniture.

I still have this first pew for sale, but have since been commissioned to make some other carvings. Below are some projects I have completed and some that are in progress.

  Crucification Pew:
  An eight foot church pew carved with the crucifixion story.

  
  
  
  

  Christ Pew:
  "With His stripes we are healed". This scripture is carved on the bench section of this 4' pew.

  
  
  

  Throne of Grace Pew:
  "Come boldly unto thy throne of grace". It has multiple layers of wood to create depth for a staircase.

  
  
  

  Hand Carved Buffet Panel:
  I was commissioned to carve a panel for a custom built buffet. I offered the client 3 different designs and they decided with this panel showing a classic still life.

  
  

Two toy boxes for twins, hand carved from oak. The designs are based on their favorite toys, a giraffe and lion and done with a fun, playful theme.

This carving was a very special and personal project for me. It is a portrait of my Uncle Alton, who was a Navy Pilot. I also fabricated a metal base for the bust.

An eight foot church pew carved with the crucifixion story. It starts on the left with a city scape of Jerusalem, winds down a path to Golgotha and the crucifixion of Christ and then flows to the empty tomb.
